Members of the Parents Committee assist the manager in many routine operations such as rehearsal management, provision of snacks and meals, transportation of players and instruments, and distribution of promotional materials. The Parents Committee assists with GVYO fundraising each year by mounting a specific fundraising project such as presenting Gift Basket Raffles at each concert. Parents are also encouraged to sign up for any other fundraising events that are held from time to time.
The manager appoints a Parents Committee Coordinator each year. This position may be shared. In addition to helping with the duties listed above, the Coordinator is invaluable for streamlining communication between parents and the manager.
Board of Directors The GVYO is administered by a board of directors. The directors are volunteers who come from a variety of disciplines in the wider community, who are committed to the GVYO, and offer their time and talent to enable the orchestra to carry out its mandate. The board consists of a maximum of 15 members who are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the GVYO Society, held in September. The board makes decisions about the artistic policy of the orchestra in consultation with the music director, and it secures the funds to enable the orchestra to function. The board is also responsible for ensuring that the GVYO Society operates according to all legal requirements as a non-profit society and registered charity.
Music Committee The Music Committee comprises the Board President, Music Director, and two Board members having professional experience in music performance, education or in music administration. The Music Committee assists the Music Director in realizing the goals and objectives of the orchestra and in making recommendations for scholarship recipients.
