Music Committee: The Music Committee is a standing committee of the GVYO board, made up of the Music Director, the Musical Advisor, the Manager and selected board members. The Music Director makes artistic decisions for the orchestra in consultation with the committee.

Administration

Orchestra Manager:
The day to day operation of the orchestra is carried out by the Orchestra Manager.

Players Committee:
Elected each year by the players, this committee consists of representatives of each of the major sections of the orchestra (violins, lower strings, woodwinds, brass). It meets monthly with the manager to communicate player concerns to the board and conductor and to receive information about board decisions and activities.

Parents Committee:
This group is made up of all GVYO parents living locally. (more than 1/3 of the GVYO players come from outside our area.) Members of the parents' committee assist the manager in many routine operations such as, managing rehearsals, meal preparation at workshops, telephoning, coordinating ticket sales, and mounting special events. The parents' committee also does some fundraising for the orchestra. Some projects have included: volunteering regularly at Bingo events, the Gourmet Basket Raffle, Chocolate Sales, the Quilt Raffle, The Classical Cleanup (Spring Garden Cleanup), and Casino Events.

Librarian:
Whenever possible an orchestra member will assume the task of librarian for the orchestra and will receive a monthly honorarium for this job. The librarian is responsible for cataloguing, marking, distribution and collection of scores and parts for the music the orchestra plays, as well as looking after its condition, and replacing lost or damaged parts. Most of the the music we play is owned by the GVYO, some is rented and some borrowed from other orchestras. The orchestra also lends music to a number of musical organizations around the island.

Stage Manager:
The Stage Manager is responsible for organizing the set-up and take-down of the orchestra, before and after all rehearsals and performances.

Student Opportunities for Administrative Support:
The Youth Orchestra engages GVYO members as requiring C.A.P.P. credit for Grade 12 as Student Assistants, to teach them the skills involved in orchestra administration.

Board of Directors
The GVYO is administered by a board of directors, 15 people who come from a variety of disciplines in the community and all of whom volunteer their time to enable the orchestra to exist. The board makes decisions about the artistic direction of the orchestra and secures the funds to enable the orchestra to function.
