CONCERT REVIEW!

Excerpts from Deryk Barker's review of the GVYO November 25 concert:

Yariv Aloni and the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra opened Sunday's concert - the first of their new season - with a marvellously infectious performance of [Haydn's Symphony 101] the "Clock".

Weiner's Suite on Hungarian Folk Themes was colourful, extremely well played and ardently persuasive…winds and brass shone, while the strings produced a full, rich sound throughout. Aloni is proving to be a formidable orchestral trainer - to produce results like this after less than two months of weekly rehearsals is most impressive.

Founded in 1986, the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra has been producing outstanding orchestral music for a quarter of a century. Season after season, the GVYO presents a truly impressive range of repertoire to Victoria’s audiences, sharing their magnificent music with school children at home and as far afield as Haida Gwaii (2001) and the Yukon Territory (2006).

Guided by internationally acclaimed conductors and coaches, the orchestra is proud of the many opportunities it offers young, dedicated musicians. GVYO alumni can be found in prestigious schools, ensembles, and orchestras throughout the world. Join us this season, and be uplifted by the passion our youth bring to the world’s best music!
